I have red brick, can I build a fire pit with these or will they explode?
anyone have anything fire pit related that they arent using?

I just built my own out of cement blocks. Bought 16 blocks for $1.28 each...stacked um up and lit the biaaatch. walla.
now go gettem tiger

if you can, locate an old washer machine, take out the center drum, cut the center stack out and then stack bricks around it. I usually use the 1/4 face wall stones. built a couple like this, cheap easy and effective.

hell you could bury a pig in banana leaves and hot rocks in that thing and have the club over for a Luau.

[/quote yes. and to answer the original question, yes, regular bricks can explode if under intense heat. you should use a fire brick for the direct contact. the likely hood of the brick actually exploding, highly unlikely, the heat that the fire puts out is probably not enough to cause the regular brick to break down, but there is a chance

ive been around fires in multiple different fire pits made out of regular bricks and never had an issue...guess im on borrowed time with that one

I have 16 large cement blocks surrounding me in my backyard. Souns like I'd be safer lighting off the rest of my fireworks sitting on my propane tank:)
