yes it was preprite

also i forgot but a friend of mine here in Salem does sandblasting and soda blasting. He's prob really cheap, except you must not be in a hurry for them....but don't tell him that haha.
I can get you his number is your interested in traveling to salem.

OH and remember the wheels I had on my YJ throughout the life of it. well those I sandblasted at my shop right down to bare metal and primed and painted them and that paint never came off or peeled right up untill I traded the MJ with them on it. I personally wouldn't waste my time wire wheeling them unless you chemically strip them first. snadblasting also leaves a good surface for the paint to stick to,so if you can do them for cheap enough i would do it.

I have a sandblaster, used it to blast almost every part on the 1975 bricklin thats sitting in my back yard.  I forget the place but I bought sand that is screened for blasting, I got the 50 pound bags since thats what my hopper holds.  You will want not just a respirator but a full hood, trust me it gets dusty.

Time is money. I would not think twice about paying somebody to sandblast them and I wager that after about 15 minutes of dicking around with a wire wheel or grinder you will feel the same way.
and some people take pride in doing it themselves regardless of the task.
I used to. But the older I get the more satisfied I feel just knowing that I could have done it myself if I wanted to.  Grin

those kinda look like the wheels jeeptech had floating in his yard Cheesy.
anyway I second doing it yourself with a wire wheel, or what I used, a dremel and sand paper, and then put on like 8 layers of primer  Wink

sure mine aren't the prettiest on the block...but that's also why I didn't buy another sports car,I don't care Cheesy

I have a sand blasting booth, those wheels would not be worth my effort.

wire wheel them then hit them with some sand paper and water (wet sand) should be about an hour per wheel and then paint.   When I got my old wheels from Derek, they were worse than they and all I did was wire wheel then wet sand to bring down the courseness, primed them and paint. look pretty good. don't use a regular paint too, use something that will hide imperfections if it matters to you like a hammered finish paint or like I used, a rattle can metal flake.  Hits the imperfections very well.

looks fine to me.  also, real cheap way to get the rust off, go buy a couple 2 litre bottles of good ol' fashion Coke, empty them into a plastic tub, drop a rim in and let it sit for a day or two.. you'll be surprised at what happens.  Good thing people drink this crap.

You can also use naval jelly

I heard that about coke...I will post pics if I can find something to put the rim in large enough.  Will the coke work again and again or will I need 2 liters for each rim over 8 days?

Looks good enough to me, too.

Another crazy toxic but good product to use is that Aircraft Stripper. I've seen people use that on wheels and it literally bubbles off the paint & clear down to bare metal.

I had a guy stop by my store a few weeks ago that had his wheels sandblasted AND powdercoated for $25 per wheel at some place in Brockton. That's the cheapest I've ever heard. I keep meaning to get the info from him on the place.
