I have a 10SI alternator from the looks of it, 3 terminal.

I have BAT terminal jumped to term 2, and term 1 (warning light indicator) was connected to a hot ignition/run source which was causing backfeed into the ignition term on the solenoid I believe.  I know disconnecting it solves the problem

I've got to look up where terminal 1 should connect unless someone already knows off the top of your head.

Sounds like I need a resistor as well:
Terminal 1 - This wire has to run to a switched ignition source. In many cars it includes a dash light for alternator, so it serves as an charge indicator. If there is no dash light to provide resistance, you may want to add a 10 ohm resistor in series with the wire. Make sure it is connected to a switched source that has no power when the ignition switch is off.

Is the source yours connects to on in ignition and run?

Yup I ran it to the ignition switch and added the 10 ohm resistor in line and it did the trick.
I followed this diagram

If you do a search on Google youll find some posts were they even give you the Radio Shack part number for the resistor.  The local RS I went to had them in stock

Super thanks, I found one with a nice durable housing which I can bolt up so I ordered that.
