I have to disagree with john,
If your current gears are OK than dont touch the pinion, why make more work for yourself?  swap the old ring gear onto the new carrier set the hieght as close as possible yo the old setup before and start from there, check your pattern and adjust acordingly. the most important thing to keeping a durable diff is after you get the right shims in line is to make sure the carrier is nice and tight. usually You would use a spreader that goes into the two holes on the outside of the carrier that pull it apart so you can get a couple thousanths press fit.
if your old gears are trashed than yes do as john said.

I think you should just swap the carrier after installing your ring gear using your exact shim setup tighten down the retaining bolts and check your pattern and you'll find your all set #ob  Cheesy

hey hoser.. never said anything about touching the pinion.. just the ring gear  reading > you.. you just typed the same thing I did but with more words.

FYI, I did make a error, it's Randy's Ring and Pinion that has the good write up about gear patterns, not Currie.

Bob, I was just looking at the locker, might definately be time for an up-grade, look at the engagement teeth in the pic posted.. nice and round off.
